The 1994 debut album from Norway's Emperor, a landmark album in the black metal genre.  Widely regarded to be one of the the examples of Norwegian black metal from the early 1990's, partly for the orchestral fury of the music, and partly for the notoriety the band earned following this album.

  In the wake of In The Nightside Eclipse, guitarist Samoth was jailed for the infamous arsons of Norway's ancient wooden churches, and drummer Faust was jailed for arson and the murder of an acquaintance outside of Lillehammer's Olympic Stadium.
